The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Research and Development High Performance Computing System (RDHPCS) Program is expanding to utilize cloud resources for scientific workflows. The High Performance Computing (HPC) Cloud Developer will enable and assist NOAA researchers in the design, architecture, deployment, and use of multiple cloud resources.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage cloud resource contracts for NOAA RDHPCS
  • Monitor and manage cloud resource utilization
  • Assist NOAA researchers in migration from traditional HPC systems to HPC cloud environments
  • Assist users in optimizing workflows within cloud multiple environments
  • Troubleshoot user runtime issues when migrating to or using cloud resources
  • Work with other technical staff to expand use of the batch system to utilize cloud resources

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in a computer/scientific field
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environment(s)
  • Experience with Linux-based systems
  • Experience with scripting in a Linux environment
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in a computer/scientific field
  • Experience with HPC environments, including Lustre, GPFS, or BeeGFS
  • Experience with HPC-related services in AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environment(s)
  • Understanding of cloud provider services and cost structures
  • Experience with SLURM batch system
  • Experience with weather or climate scientific applications
