The Configuration Manager defines, implements, and maintains processes and tools to enable continuous integration and continuous deployment of largescale systems. This position provides an opportunity to play a critical role in the migration of CMS’s legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud-based architectures, delivering improved scalability and lower total cost of ownership. 

The Configuration Management Manager:

  • Defines and implements processes and tolls for ensuring repeatable deployment of code
  • Identifies configuration items implements change control configuration status accounting, and configuration audits
  • Creates and maintains software, hardware, and documentation configuration baselines (development, test, production, etc.)
  • Develops or modifies CM plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the complexity and scope of the developmental or operational system
  • Implement CM discipline for the entire life cycle of systems from initial requirements/capabilities baselines to system end-of-life
  • Regulates the change process so that only approved and validated changes are incorporated into product documents and related software, licenses, media, and other IT assets
  • Ensures that all changes to the baselines go through appropriate change boards
  • Tracks all problems and changes in product documents/software and reports changes, controls standard operating procedures and current configurations
  • Uses or recommends automated CM tools to implement CM policies and procedure


  • BA/BS in Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience 
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment 
  • Experience with modern repository and deployment automation tools (e.g., github, Jenkins)
  • The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Public Trust.


  • Prior experience supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 
  • Working understanding of Medicare Advantage systems and data
  • Experience with DevOps principles, including: Continuous integration & continuous deployment; Infrastructure-as-code based configuration management; Amazon Web Services environment; Agile Development environments; Creating and maintaining design and network documentation; Understanding of systems and network architecture; Working with cross-functional teams (users, developers, product managers), in both Build and Delivery functionalities; Breaking down complex problems into understandable and iterative solutions.
