At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Developer supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), you will be trusted with providing the full range of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud administration, configuration, and maintenance support.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Implement tools and automation for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, diagnostics, and scaling.
  • Use Amazon EC2 features to provision, monitor, scale, and distribute compute infrastructure.
  • Create Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) resources such as subnets, network access control lists, and security groups.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Maintain system documentation.
  • Configure and manage AWS environments to meet business owner needs.
  • Conduct full range of cloud administrative and IT operations tasks.
  • Perform architecture design, system evaluation, system analysis, and infrastructure assessment.
  • Deploy, test, and document Development, Pre-Production, and Production environments.
  • Use Amazon CloudWatch metrics to monitor the health and utilization of AWS resources.
  • Create gold images and employ auto scaling.
  • Configure multi-factor authentication on virtual and hardware devices.
  • Create IAM users and groups.
  • Maintain account documentation, such as architecture diagrams and portal links.


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience.

Required Experience/Technical Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience deploying cloud architecture.
  • 5 years of IT experience.
  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures and problem solving.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages: Python, Ruby, JavaScript or programming languages: Java, C++/C#.
  • Solid networking knowledge.
  • Proficiency in scripting Image deployment and bootstrapping, as well as Cloud Formation.
  • Knowledge of databases like MySQL, Oracle, SQLServer, or MongoDB.
  • Experience in a 24/7 production environment.
  • Experience designing redundant, highly-available, multi-region cloud architectures.
  • Experience in Linux/Unix based systems a plus.


  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Health Care Industry or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) experience.
  • Soft skills to work with a broad group of individuals from very technical, project, program, and customer facing.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient at multi-tasking and proactive in work responsibilities.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Passion for providing a great customer experience.
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment.
  • Must be able to see opportunities for improvement, take ownership, and closely work with development team to drive product improvement.
  • Capability of speaking directly with client teams to provide knowledge transfer or cloud expertise.
  • Strong background in Microsoft based applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities.
  • Experience with security and network monitoring tools such as Nagios, New Relic, Trend Micro, and Splunk.
  • Backup AWS and on-premise resources using AWS services.


  • Must be able to obtain a public trust clearance.
  • Must have lived in the US for the last 3 out of 5 years.
  • Must be a US person (green card or citizen).
