Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Coordinator to join our team in Towson, MD supporting multiple CMS programs within its Benefits Administration and Technology Solutions (BATS) Organization. On this program, GDIT is responsible for ensuring that the program teams are able to respond to and recover from emergencies without significant disruption of GDIT and CMS key operations. 

As a BCP/DR coordinator, you will work with multiple team’s, varying in size, to provide guidance on the efficient resumption of business functions and ensure there are adequate procedures in place to address short term and long term facility, technology, and workforce outages. This will be accomplished through facilitating frequent exercises with collaborative orchestration of designated IT personnel and key stakeholders across CMS with a unified purpose to expediently recover critical systems from a disruptive event. 

Candidate will provide guidance to program teams on the efficient resumption of business functions, minimizing impacts on safety and well-being of employees, enabling continuity of services to the customer while minimizing inconvenience, preventing GDIT from sustaining financial and operational impacts that could seriously jeopardize the stability of the corporation, and minimize impacts on GDIT’s public and industry image.


  • Coordinates and leads activities to plan, exercise and if necessary execute Contingency Plans (CP), Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) to ensure GDIT, clients and partners can continue to operate its businesses.
  • Works with clients, outside consultants, suppliers and service providers as appropriate for independent CP/BCP/DRP enhancements, exercises, audits and reviews.
  • Interfaces with CP/BCP/DRP plan owners to organize CP/BCP/DRP tests and exercises to improve the timeliness and quality of the team response and to ensure adequate testing of all plans.
  • Develops strategies for recovery of business processes, critical functions, operations and the supporting information technologies within the specified recovery time objectives.
  • Coordinates plan activation procedures for each location, activate command center(s), ensure work assessment of any damage, and facilitate salvage and restoration activities.
  • Manages preparedness and response for any crisis that may arise. Facilitate identification, escalation, and notification procedures to recovery from crisis situations.
  • Facilitates annual Business Impact Analysis to validate mission critical business processes, Recovery Time and Recovery Point Objectives meet business requirements and mitigate acceptable exposure to loss.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of CP/BCP/DRP standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of CP/BCP/DRP planning activities.
  • Interfaces with IT application and infrastructure component 'owners' to ensure applications and systems are appropriately assessed risk ranks and that current and adequate plans exist for those determined to be critical to GDIT's business.
  • Promotes CP/BCP/DRP training and awareness program that will create and maintain organizational awareness and enhance skills required to develop, implement, maintain, and execute all CP/BCP/DRP initiatives.
  • Prepares reports of analysis, methodology and results.
  • Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related discipline; and 5+ years experience with Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Emergency Response Activity (equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standard emergency preparedness and response standards, principles, and practices.
  • Requires familiarity and knowledge of NIST SP 800-34 Contingency Planning Guide for Federal Information Systems.


  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) strongly preferred.
  • Certification in one or more specific technologies may be required, depending on job assignment.
  • Understanding of Cloud Technologies.

  • Highly communicative and motivated individual who will be required to interface directly with the customer.
