Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Master-Level Restricted Maneuvering Ship handling refresher training to Military Sealift Command Masters and Chief Mates and an introduction to advanced ship handling procedures for second and third officers focusing upon the intangibles of maneuvering a ship in a restricted environment.  This course is in-house and exportable (must be able to travel CONUS and OCONUS).
  • Topics include Ship handling Fundamentals, Restricted Maneuvering Evolutions, Restricted Maneuvering Ship handling Case Studies, International and Inland Rules of the Road and Special Evolutions.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a Maritime discipline or related field (includes USNA, USMMA or State Maritime School Officer Program graduate) and either sailed a minimum of six years as a licensed Merchant
  • Mariner Deck Officer Master Unlimited/Oceans with comprehensive knowledge of US Navy AND MSC operations and culture or Navy Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) experience in
  • increasing positions of responsibility with ability to demonstrate knowledge of MSC operations and served as a Commanding Officer of a US Navy Ship (Destroyer, Cruiser, Amphibious ship or Aircraft Carrier)
  • This comprehensive knowledge requirement may be attained through various career paths but shall include either Navy Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) experience (surface command experience) or a current senior level Merchant Marine Unlimited Deck License (Master Unlimited/Oceans preferred), and sailing experience on MSC or other US flagged commercial ships of comparable tonnage and routes to the ships being trained.
  • Must be computer proficient to learn and operate the Maritime Virtual Ship Simulator and use the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Required to complete an approved USCG Train the Trainer Course within 30 days of being hired.
  • Must have a Secret Clearance.
